NOTES - McMurray and No. 1 AXE Twist Team

Tricky Triangle History: McMurray will be making his 16th start at Pocono Raceway when the team returns to the triangle-shaped speedway in the mountains of Pennsylvania for the second time this season. His best start came in his last fulltime NSCS season with Ganassi when he won the pole in 2005. McMurray’s best finish of ninth came during his first race at the speedway in 2004. He also matched that finish at this same event in 2008.

McMurray Wins at the Brickyard: McMurray and the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats team headed north to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway this past weekend with one goal in mind- win the Brickyard 400 and assist team owner Chip Ganassi in capturing what could be considered the “Triple Crown” of motorsports. Ganassi had already won the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 earlier this season, a feat no other car owner has ever accomplished in the same season. McMurray placed his No. 1 Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Boats Chevrolet in the second row, lining up in the fourth position. After running no lower than sixth, McMurray led for 16 laps on the way to winning the 17th annual Brickyard 400.

Welcome AXE Twist: This weekend the No. 1 Chevrolet will welcome a new paint scheme in AXE Twist. AXE Twist was developed by world-renowned fragrance experts. Twist starts with fresh hints of citrus and lime, and then over time adds more depth with earthy notes of cedar and sandalwood. AXE Twist is available in a Deodorant Bodyspray, Deodorant Stick, Antiperspirant Stick and Shower Gel. Race fans can purchase AXE Twist at most food, drug, club and mass retail outlets.

“Changing” Technology Applied to Car Paint Scheme: For the first time in the history of NASCAR, a car in competition on the race track will have a color changing paint scheme. The No.1 AXE Twist Chevrolet will feature a color-changing hood when it takes the green flag on Sunday, Aug. 1 at Pocono Raceway. The paint scheme is representative of the AXE Twist fragrance itself, which changes scents throughout the day. The vinyl used on the hood uses liquid crystals that can be accurately set to show color at specific temperatures and was specifically engineered to meet the exact temperature range needed to show changing colors on the hood of a NSCS car. Earnhardt Ganassi Racing and Unilever hope this color-changing hood will keep the thousands of race fans at Pocono and millions watching from the comfort of their homes locked in on McMurray’s No.1 Chevrolet.

About AXE: AXE, a leader in men’s care, is an iconic personal care brand around the world that helps guys look, smell and feel their best. The Unilever-manufactured brand is available in a line of deodorant bodysprays, deodorant and anti-perspirant sticks, shower gels and hair care products. AXE is the No. 1 men’s grooming brand in the U.S., excluding shaving hardware, and achieved this status only seven years after launch. Including deodorant bodysprays, AXE is the largest men’s deodorant brand in the U.S. The brand’s mission is to help guys get the girl with grooming products that reflect individual personality and lifestyle. For more information, visit www.theaxeeffect.com.

Get Your Autograph: Attention Race Fans! McMurray, 2010 Daytona 500 Champion, Brickyard 400 Winner, and driver of the No.1 AXE Twist Chevrolet, will make an appearance at his Merchandise Trailer to sign autographs for 150 fans on Sunday, Aug 1. He will sign from 9:20-9:50am ET or until 150 fans have moved through the line.

In the Points: After winning the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, McMurray and the No.1 Team advanced two positions to 16th, just 151 points out 12th- the cutoff to the Chase.

    CHASSIS INFO

No. 1 Axe Chevrolet (NSCS): Chassis #1004. Chassis #1004 will be making its third start of the season at Pocono. McMurray drove the chassis just six weeks prior at Michigan finishing 24th. This chassis was also used at Texas Motor Speedway where McMurray started 15th and finished 30th after being caught in a nine-car on-track incident.

McMurray to Pilot the No. 1 AXE Twist Chevrolet at Pocono

CONCORD, N.C. (July 30, 2010) – Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, and AXE, a leader in men’s grooming, announced today that its newest fragrance, Twist, will serve as the primary sponsor on the No. 1 Chevrolet, driven by 2010 Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 Winner, McMurray in the Aug. 1 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) event at Pocono International Raceway.

Fans should be sure to look for the bold, yet primarily black No.1 Chevrolet with neon green and neon yellow accents, much like the packaging of AXE Twist. However, the real excitement surrounding the paint scheme is a new technology on the hood of the car, which allows the hood to change colors, due to increasing temperatures, simulating how the AXE Twist fragrance changes over time.

    Notes of Interest:

“Changing” Technology Applied to Paint Scheme: For the first time in the history of NASCAR, a car in competition on the race track will have a color changing paint scheme, due to increasing temperature of the sheet metal.

New! AXE Twist: AXE Twist was developed by world-renowned fragrance experts. AXE Twist is available in a Deodorant Bodyspray, Deodorant Stick, Antiperspirant Stick and Shower Gel. Race fans can purchase AXE Twist at most food, drug, club and mass retail outlets.

McMurray at Pocono: McMurray will be making his 16th career NSCS start at Pocono this weekend when he takes the green flag in his No. 1 AXE Twist Chevrolet. McMurray’s best NSCS start came during the second-race in 2005 when he started on the Pole and finished 11th. McMurray has three top-10 and five top-15 finishes in the NSCS at the track located in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.

McMurray History: The Joplin, MO native, 2010 Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 Winner, has won five NSCS races since he entered the series near the end of 2002. In his seven years and 278 races at NASCAR’s highest level he has 36 career top-five finishes, 87 top-10 results, and six pole awards. McMurray shocked the racing world in 2002 when he won his first NSCS race while racing for Chip Ganassi in only his second NSCS start and set a modern-era NASCAR record by becoming the quickest driver to win a cup race. The 2003 Rookie of the Year has finished in the top-20 in points in five of his seven seasons on the Cup circuit with a best finish of 11th in 2004.

    Quoteboard:

Mike Dwyer, AXE Marketing Director: - “The AXE brand has had a lot of success in finding new and innovative ways to interact and entertain guys both online and offline. Partnering with Earnhardt Ganassi to debut the No. 1 AXE Twist Chevrolet and its color-changing technology holds true to this tradition, providing fans with a surprising and unexpected element at the track.”

Steve Lauletta, Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, President: “Partnering with Unilever and more specifically with their AXE brand is something that we are extremely proud of. We also like the fact that AXE Twist is a hot brand with young adults and introducing a brand like this into the sport continues to help expose NASCAR to a younger demographic. In addition, we have always prided ourselves on developing long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with big relevant brands and Unilever and AXE are certainly that. We have had a great relationship with Unilever for several years now and look forward to it continuing.”

McMurray., Driver: “We’re excited to be able to represent such a popular brand in AXE this weekend at Pocono. Having AXE join the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing family is proof positive that we are pushing the limit to attract quality partners like AXE Twist and to make cool connections to the brand, like the color-changing technology on the hood. We expect, as always, to arrive to Pocono with the best equipment and to compete at the highest level possible. My teammate, Juan Pablo, started 10th and finished second there in this race last season. So, we certainly expect to have a good weekend with the No.1 AXE Twist Chevrolet.”

About AXE: AXE is an iconic personal care brand around the world that helps guys look, smell and feel their best. The Unilever-manufactured brand is available in a line of deodorant bodysprays, deodorant and antiperspirant sticks, shower gels and hair care products. AXE is the No. 1 men’s grooming brand in the U.S., excluding shaving hardware, which AXE does not offer, and achieved this status only seven years after launch. The brand’s mission is to help guys get the girl with grooming products that reflect individual personality and lifestyle. For more information visit www.theaxeeffect.com.

I agree, I remember a few years back when Bill Elliot won Pocono, he said he was gonna take the same car to Indy, and guess what he won Indy that year as well. says Pocono is his worst track, maybe they just don't want to tear up the good car.

Hello all, very long time no speak. I am very excited to see all of the recent success, I have never been the biggest fan of but certainly have been proved wrong, so I will admit that. Sorry I have not been on during race days, I watch every lap just been busy, working on an MBA so I got a lot to do usually but I have been browsing and keeping up. HELLO GREG, sorry I have been gone but I thought of you (and all) after the Brickyard. We live bout 90 minute drive from Indy and darn near went..lol....my bad.

Anyhow, they might not have brought the same car for logistical reasons. They did not get car back till monday due to the win, photo deals, and pst race full teardown. So to get it back to shop in N.C. turn it around and then get to Pocono another haul might have been too much.
I think he can finish well this week. I am with him dont care about the chase but it would be another feather in the cap if he did something awesome and made it so I hope a top 5 is in the works Sunday.

And.......anyone going to Charlotte in the fall, my wife and I have decided to go for sure so if anyone is going maybe we can meet up and we are going to go the the EGR race shop as well. look forward to trying to post more, and I have learned to be a little more patient so I will try and be a little more positive.

Oh yeah and even though I am not selling I got flyers that they are making some Brickyard win shirts and a race version diecast so order them up, they look sweet and go great with the Daytina 500 win car (which I am told is coming to me next week! And do not forget that Dale tribute car, that looks cool. I got the t-shirt of that just yesterday. looks good.

yeah, the shirt that my fiancee got me was the dale tribute shirt. and the daytona win car is pretty cool, although there are only a couple marks on it if you don't count the confetti. I'm hoping that I can get my hands on the brickyard win car as well. (interesting to note that on nascar.com they have the dale tribute car in 1:24 and 1:64 but the 1:64 has the wing and the 1:24 has the spoiler... that's weird... oh, and they have the brickyard car as an option)

yes that is wierd, I would say those were generic stock photos before the finished product was made and fully designed. not sure. my daytona car is supposed to be here next week sometime from my wholesaler I still deal with and the Indy car is out there for pre order so you should be able to get it. I believe it said expected arrival was in December
